Turkey on The Fly…Travelling Dog Food Homemade

Turkey on The Fly...Travelling Dog Food Homemade

Whenever we go travelling, my peep always makes a handy homemade meal to go. They always contain the same tasty ingredients that she uses for my home meals with a healthy protein, some fruit and veggies and a little grain. However these little pup-cakes are perfect one portion travelling dog food with no mess and easy to transport. So when we are on the road she can pop one out of my container and crumbles the pup-cake, adds some kibble and a splash of warm water into my travel bowl. It’s dinner on the go!

Can dogs eat Courgettes (Zucchini)?…You bet, it’s a low-calorie food, low in fat and has many nutrients that dogs need. Peel the rind of the Courgette and either dice or shred into their meal. Courgette contains useful amounts of folate (24 mcg/100 g), potassium (280 mg/100 g) and vitamin A (384 IU [115 mcg]/100 g. A 1/2 cup of zucchini also contains 19% of the recommended amount of manganese.

Ingredients:mix your pup cake mixture all together

  • 1 kg (2.2 lbs.) lean minced turkey
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) cornmeal
  • 1 large courgette  (Zucchini)
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) un-sweeten puree of apple and pear
  • 2 eggs (shells and all)
  • a small glug of canola oil (no more than 20ml/2 tbl.)

homemade dog food recipeDirections:

  1. Place minced turkey, un-sweeten apple and pear puree, cornmeal, courgette, oil and eggs in a large bowl
  2. Take shells and pulverize them with food processor and add to mixture.
  3. Get your paws in and mix all ingredients together
  4. Grab your muffin tray and line with cupcake liners. (you do not need to use cupcake liners, however it makes clean-up so much easier.)
  5. Fill muffin tray with equal amounts of minced mixture. Give them a little pat, so they are firm
  6. pop them in your 200º C (400º F)  pre-heated oven for 20 minutes.
  7. cool completely on wire rack.
Serving: This recipe is perfect if you’re traveling with your pooch.  Make them serving size and pop one open for your pups meal. Store the rest in your cooler or hotel mini fridge.
