Lassie is probably the most famous dog of all time, and certainly one of the coolest. She can think like a human, and uses her intelligence and loyalty to fight crime and rescue those in need. She’s a true canine superhero….
They say that dogs are a man’s best friend, and if they’re all as cool as these three guys it’s easy to see why.
If you can get through Marley and Me without welling up you’re dead inside. Either that or you just don’t like dogs.
What makes this film so great is that we get to grow up with Marley, and see her transformation from a naughty little puppy to an old dog struggling with health problems that is still fiercely loyal to the family that love him.
Marley is one cool dog, purely because she’s so mischievous. She escapes from a moving car on the freeway, eats virtually everything in the family home and is expelled from training classes for being un-trainable. But despite all this Marley brings out the best in his family, and helps them stick together during tough times. Having your sofa chewed to pieces is a small price to pay when you’ve got a pet as loving as Marley.
Just like Marley, Hooch is a whirlwind of disaster. Scott Turner, a police detective who has a love of all things neat, takes Hooch in as he believes he is the only witness in a murder case but is shocked at the amount of damage one dog can cause to his house, car and life as a whole.
Hooch may be disgustingly slobbery and have a tendency to destroy everything he comes in contact with, but he’s still undeniably cool. He plays his part in solving the murder case and also helps Turner’s love life, by sparking a relationship with the local vet. Hooch is one good pooch.

Lassie first appeared in a short story penned by Eric Knight in 1938, and hit the big screen five years later in the 1943 box office hit Lassie Come Home. She has featured in 11 more films since and has also starred in numerous television series, the longest of which ran for a staggering 19 seasons consisting of 588 episodes.
Although Lassie is a girl all the canine actors who have played the role down the years have been male. There are a couple of reasons for this, the first being that male collies keep a thicker coat in the summer which looks better on the screen. The second reason is that male collies grow to be significantly larger than females, so a child actor won’t outgrow the dog so quickly.
