Divonne lake is one of my favorite places to go for a walk on the weekend. It’s perfect in the summer, beautiful in the fall and loads of fun on a winter snowy day. The park area is about 45 hectares (111 acres), with a lake in the middle to walk around. There is also a small grassy island in the middle of the lake, vegetation, a sandy beach (sorry no dogs allowed), play area for children, and horses.
Walking around “the esplanade du Lac” you will see joggers, walkers, bikers, and people fishing on the water’s edge, plus of course loads of happy dogs enjoying the trek. It takes about 40 minutes to do the full circle of the lake and there is plenty of free parking for your owner’s car.
After a Walk in Divonne
Considering lake Divonne is just a short walk to the village, it is a perfect place to head to for a little shopping, a coffee at one of the outdoor cafes or enjoying the Sunday market. A summer time treat idea is to pick-up some freshly baked crusty bread, a chunk of local cheese, some sun-ripened tomatoes, meats and sweets at the Sunday morning farmer’s market and stroll over the park for a picnic. Some of the shops that line the streets where the market is are open on Sunday morning until about 13h, so you might even be able to buy a picnic blanket too!
The best thing about the village of Divonne is that it is Dog Gone friendly! All shops and any outdoor cafe will warmly welcome you and your owners for a drink or something to eat. During the colder months we have found that most of the restaurants were happy to have me as a guest. The only problem we had once was at Karishma Lounge, an Indian restaurant located in the village, however Le Nabab, the other Indian restaurant located in Divonne was very happy to see me and gave me a piece of fresh chicken!
