Rolle is about 20 minutes by car from Geneva and just a hop from Nyon where I am staying while in Switzerland. Rolle is located on the northwestern shore of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) between Nyon and Lausanne. We usually head down here for a little lakeside walk and enjoy the beautiful views of the lake.
…Another Switzerland dog friendly town
Rolle brims with medieval charm: its château is on the shore of Lake Geneva, with a lovely park area, marina, gardens, cafes, lakeside homes and a wonderful board walk right beside the lake for a cool and breezy walk on warm summer days. The town stretches along Lake Geneva and is surrounded by vineyards and an elicited mix of unique shops.
Our walk usually starts at the far end of town where we can find free parking and I am able to jump out of the car and right on the grass, a quick run down the field and past the Chateau is a little beach area that the local dogs have called their own. If the Swan’s are not hanging about it is a perfect place for a quick dip or at least wading around to cool your paws.
The promenade is right besides the lake and the 30 minute walk will take you past beautiful gardens, a wonderful view of Ile de la Harpe that protects the port, and down to the Marina. If you double back, there are two wonderful restaurants right on the promenade to enjoy a lakeside lunch or a glass of wine at sunset. If you do decide to visit the town, you will be pleased to find bakeries, clothing stores, antiques and a good selection of restaurants and pubs.
Three of your favorite places to visit in Rolle
Churchill Pub: Typical pub located on the strip, quirky and pet friendly.
La Boîte à thé shop: A popular destination for tea lovers for exotic mixes and beautiful tea sets.
