CHICAGO, Oct. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — The War Dogs program chooses rescued dogs instead of dogs bred specifically for service. Rescued dogs have survived their own trauma, which can help to create a strong bond—a shared experience—between a veteran and his dog, as both get a second chance in life. Together, they forge a healing journey to cope with post-traumatic stress disorder.
War Dogs-Making It Home has an upcoming fundraising event on October 28, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. in Union Pier, MI. The event is hosted by the Red Arrow Roadhouse and will feature a 4-course dinner with wine pairings as well as a silent auction and book signing.
Our guest of honor and keynote speaker is Captain Luis Carlos Montalvan, New York Times bestselling author of “Until Tuesday: a Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him.” This moving book tells the story of a highly decorated soldier’s struggle with PTSD/TBI when he returns home. A shattered life is turned around when he is partnered with Tuesday, a highly trained service dog. The book is being made into a major motion picture for release in 2013. Captain Montalvan will be available to sign copies of Until Tuesday and you will meet his service dog–the amazing Tuesday.
Also in attendance will be several of the members of War Dogs and their service dogs as well as the three co-founders of the program: Dr. Robert Smith, Dr. Roxanne Roberts, and Ms. Elana Morgan, owner of Morgan’s Dogs and Director of Training.
The silent auction will include a signed original portrait of Tuesday, four courtside Chicago Bulls tickets, two complete two-week boarding and dog training in basic obedience by Morgan’s Dogs, a romantic weekend at the Three Oaks Inn, gourmet baskets of wine, food, and dog pampering, as well as local services and products. Seating is limited.
