It’s a dog’s life, hunger and ease ~ 1660’s proverb
My peep is pretty good at making the usual decisions for my well being She feeds me well, provides me with a few dogs beds, and is responsible for what I need and when I need it, like a nice long walk to keep me fit.
However when it comes to my health she wants the very best for me. Now I know, no one wants to think about their bundle of fur getting sick or hurt, but it can happen and its best to be as prepared as possible. And considering I sometimes like to think as myself as a Super Beagle; fearless, active and curious, Trina worries that she will not be able to protect me from harm all the time.
We are finally moving back to the UK, so it’s time to think about pet insurance. When it comes to my health insurance, my peep has been doing research on finding a policy that will be a good fit for me. This is not an easy thing to do, there are hundred of choices, policies, terms and costs can range as cheap as £5.00 per month for very basic coverage to hundreds of pounds for more complex policies.
How does pet health insurance work?
well it works a lot like my peep’s health insurance
- You pay a monthly premium
- You get medical coverage for a litany of medical procedures. You might also have to pay a deductible or pay a certain amount before your insurance kicks in, or it will cover a percentage of your vet bill.
- fees for boarding, advertising for a lost pet, and death benefits could be part of it too.
Now this can vary from company to company, it can also be different for different breeds of dogs too.
Things to consider when choosing Pet Insurance
The cheapest may not always be the best as there is varying monetary amounts of cover and different types of insurance, which will give you more protection than others.
Make sure the first thing you do is check and read the policy, once you’ve done that read it again!
Pet insurance comes in three ways
John Lewis Pet Insurance
John Lewis has a new video that sums it up perfectly. Besides being beautifully illustrated and features a very cute beagle, it mentions why pet insurance is a good investment for your pet. It’s short and sweet and to the point. Have a watch and tell me what you think?
What we liked about the policy
- Long term cover
- Complementary Treatment:
- Emergency dental treatment:
- Accidental Damage
- no upper age limits
- Free vetfone help line
Why Pet Insurance?
We live at a wonderful time, there are more lifesaving treatments available for pets than ever before. We also believe in preventive treatments, such as vaccinations and dental cleanings, which can help me have a long and healthy life. Knowing that I’m covered and that my wellness is protected gives my peep peace of mind.
Now some people will say the premiums and the deductibles are just too high to justify paying for insurance each year, but that is not the point. With insurance, my peep knows that if something major happens to me and has to pay for an expensive operation or procedure, she knows that she can tell our vet to do what is necessary to make me feel better. It’s my peeps mental health, not financial. Buying peace of mind and not worry about making a hard choice if a financial decision on my health would ever be a factor.
Now in my Super Beagle world, I hope we never have to use the insurance for something like that, however I too have peace of mind that my peep has good sense to protect her furry pal’s health!
