I always like to help animals find forever homes, support shelters and give back to good causes that are close to my beagle heart. And people are no different they too need help and support sometime too, and I always have my best wag, when it comes to our military.

So I was pleased to hear about my friend’s charity event on the 2nd of May this year. Mike, the manager of Hemingway’s bar in Wimbledon Village which is my favorite dog friendly local has teamed up with Help For Heroes and will be playing tennis for 40 hours to help our military heroes.

Starting at 5 am sharp and running for 40 hours and ending at 8 pm on Saturday, Mike will be playing local tennis players, celebrities and anyone who would love to raise a racket and support our troops.

Even though I can’t join in the tennis match, I’m hoping to help out by catching a ball or two!

Help For Heroes

Help for Heroes supports our wounded. They deliver an enduring national network of support for our wounded and their families. Inspiring and enabling those who have made sacrifices on our behalf to achieve their full potential.

The war in Afghanistan may be nearly over, but for those who have suffered life-changing injuries, their battles are just beginning. Help for Heroes will not let them fight these battles alone.

About Mike

Hailing from North London originally, Mike Mitchell came to work in Wimbledon 6 years ago and never looked back. He has since become an integral part of Wimbledon Village and his love of tennis made it the perfect place for him to live and work. Mike’s passion for his work and the local community is only matched by his passion to help make a difference in the lives of others. Back in 2010 Mike did his first charity skydive in aid of Victim Support and in 2013 he upped the stakes by coordinating 20 local residents to take part in a skydive raising over £12,000 for the Wimbledon Guild, a local charity providing help and support for the residents of Merton. He is now combining his passions for Wimbledon, tennis and charity fundraising and taking on his biggest challenge yet… a 40 hour tennis marathon in support of Help for Heroes.
