I want to introduce you to a creative and talented artist Roo Abrook. She’s an artist living in Southsea with her dog Kiki, a gorgeous bridle French Bulldog and Jack Russel cross. She has been creating stunning art for around 5 years and also makes one off pieces for gallery exhibitions too. Before that she worked as a graphic designer and also ran a fashion label, so you can sure tell she’s talented and creative.
We were so excited last year reviewing her unique prints, pillows and postcards, that we wanted to know a little more about her work and inspiration. Check out our review from last year about her tattoo pug print.
Roo Abrook was kind enough to tell us a little about herself and was also kind enough to offer Wag The Dog UK readers a chance to win a custom art print of their pet. How wag cool is that!
What is your business about?
I make art prints from my studio in Southsea, up-cycling Antique book pages with designs that incorporate my own hand drawings of animals and nature.
What made you decide to create the art that you do?
I love drawing, painting, collage and print. I produce lots of art prints using the Antique book pages but also love to produce more one off pieces for galleries and exhibitions.
What inspired you to use antique book paper?
I’ve collected Antique books and ephemera for many years and at first I used the book covers to make collages, I had a surplus of book pages being unused so decided to up-cycle these with designs using my hand drawings and studies. I also use the pages in paintings and other works too.
Where are your products available?
Through my online shop RooAbrook and on other online shops. The prints also sell in gorgeous homeware/lifestyle stores and art gallery/museum shops throughout the UK.
Can you tell us a little more about Kiki?
Kiki was a rescue dog and I was lucky to get her when she was 15 months…we live in Southsea on the south coast and drove over 4 hours to Wales to meet her, I think we already knew that we wanted her to share our home, as soon as we met we fell in love with her…she’s been part of the family for over 5 years now and we all adore her.
About the bond with your pet? What can you say about them?
Dogs are brilliant, the bond they have with us is amazing….Kiki will come and sit next to me in my studio whilst I draw and will give my hand a push with her nose if she wants some attention and I have to stop drawing, she’s very persistent! She also loves playing with my son, they are very close, she snuggles up to him at night…thoroughly spoilt!
Best advice for travelling with a dog?
We take Kiki out with us all the time, she loves travelling in the car! As I work from home she’s used to being with people most of the time and really isn’t too keen on being left alone…. so she comes everywhere with us.
